Atmospheric Sciences encompasses many areas of study that explore the atmosphere's physical characteristics, motions and processes, and how these influence all aspects of the environment and human life. Atmospheric scientists interpret and predict weather patterns, analyze climate trends, monitor air quality, working in a wide variety of agencies, laboratories, businesses and educational institutions.
Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology is an interdisciplinary doctoral program bringing together faculty and students from multiple departments and institutions at the University of Nevada, Reno, the Desert Research Institute and the Great Basin Institute. The program includes collaboration from University departments such as Biology, Chemistry, Geography and more.
We offer programs of study leading to M. Students within the Hydrologic Sciences Graduate Program can specialize in surface water hydraulics, watershed hydrology, water resources evaluations, water quality, geomorphology, and limnology.
Specific areas of emphasis in Hydrogeology include groundwater contaminant transport, geochemical evolution of ground waters, nutrient transport processes, vadose zone hydrology, ground water resource evaluation and ground water modeling. Students and faculty have the unique opportunity to study within this specialized area of research with access to cutting-edge technology, such as a new functional MRI facility—a partnership between our Center for Integrative Neuroscience and the Renown Health medical center.
Congratulations to the Andrew C. Read the full story here:. Find a full list of the six GIDP students awarded here. Academic Programs American Indian Studies. Applied Biosciences. Applied Intercultural Arts Research. By providing a solid background in the methods behind data science, the program enables our graduates to work well with data and be better prepared for the latest methods of focusing on large or dynamic data sets in their chosen fields.
Earth is microbial: Bacteria, archaea, viruses, protists, and fungi are the largest store of biomass on the planet, and represent nearly all of its biodiversity. They store massive genetic resources that can be used to solve challenges faced by our rapidly growing human population. Microbes will be key to developing more sustainable energy generation and material synthesis, improving human health and wellness, and satisfying increased food demands of larger human populations in the face of limited environmental resources.
Quantum Science and Engineering QSE is a discipline focused on understanding and leveraging the unusual behavior of particles and excitations governed by the laws of quantum mechanics. Leveraging this unusual behavior could lead to the creation of quantum computers that can perform calculations that are not feasible with classical computers, quantum sensors that can measure tiny changes not accessible to classical sensors, and quantum encryption that is unbreakable.
You will explore real data problems that are interesting and challenging as you equip yourself with the quantitative tools needed to gather, analyze and interpret data on a massive scale. This is an credit certificate program that consists of five statistics courses.
Gerontology refers to the study of aging, and also includes adult development. The existence of large numbers of individuals over the age of 65 is unprecedented in the history of humankind. To address these challenges, students, researchers, and practitioners in the field of aging will need to take a multidisciplinary approach to solving these challenges, which will require an understanding of biological, psychological, sociocultural, and design and engineering factors.
Accordingly, we have designed a multidisciplinary minor, drawing upon faculty across campus, which is tailored to individual student needs. The Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies MAIS degree program provides an opportunity for OSU graduate students to formulate a program of study that integrates work from three separate disciplines to address a particular issue or problem, leading to an integration or synthesis of all three fields.
The MAIS program at its most effective makes possible syntheses of intellectual traditions, faculty interests and expertise, and departmental resources from across the OSU campus. The objective of the program is to allow flexible opportunities for advanced study in an integration of multiple fields and disciplines appropriate to the specific needs of the individual student. The program provides students with the multidisciplinary training necessary to function confidently and effectively in professional resource management positions.
The curriculum includes courses in natural and social sciences, environmental law, policy, education, economics, ecology and management. The discipline of materials science is inherently interdisciplinary, involving fundamental aspects of chemistry, physics, biology, geoscience, agricultural science, mathematics, and engineering. The materials science program is spread over nine different departments spanning three colleges.
This allows students to earn M. The Master of Public Policy MPP specifically prepares students for careers in domestic and international organizations and offers training for "in-service" students already employed desiring professional growth and advancement.
The Ph. The Public Policy Graduate Program accepts students with backgrounds in related academic disciplines. The degrees are designed to provide individuals with analytic skills, an understanding of public policy processes, and substantive knowledge in a specific policy area.
